(Christopher Robbins) The 146% surge in felony assaults in Bronx's 41st Precinct [PDF] is due to a spike in assaults on Rikers Island. Last month there were 106, compared with 43 during the same period in 2012. Sources told the Post that there's been an increase in fights among Crips and Trinitario gang members because the Correction Department began housing the two together in the same detention center.

“For the last 30 years, Crips have always been separated — everyone wants to beat up the Crips. But because more Trinitarios started getting locked up, they’re now throwing them in this one area," the source says. "And, of course, the Trinitarios are getting abused. They can’t use the phone. They can’t watch TV. They can’t get food.”
