On Tuesday evening around 7 p.m. an off-duty MTA officer's gun fired on accident putting a bullet in his 3-year-old son's chest.

The incident occurred in their Smithtown home in Long Island. The man also got shot himself, and it is not clear at this point whether the gun went off twice, or it the bullet ricocheted and his the officer.

When authorities arrived at the home to respond to the 9-1-1 call, the boy was crying, but conscious, and so was the father. Both were taken to Stony Brook University hospital and are reported to be in stable condition.
