In preparation for upcoming staffing shortages, New York State is seeking recently retired health care professionals to help if the need arises.
In the event that the novel Coronavirus crisis worsens, the states writes, "we need the help of qualified retired health professionals and related professionals to supplement our hospital capacity on a temporary basis to treat seriously ill coronavirus patients including those that may need to be intubated. The NYS Department of Health will recertify you for the purpose."

New York state currently is seeing the highest number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 with numbers upwards of 1700 cases. Previously reported, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said at a news conference Tuesday afternoon that he is considering a 'shelter-in-place' initiative to combat the continuing spread of the novel coronavirus.
