Mom Calls Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital “Family” Amid Son's Cancer Battle

Katy Erdman’s world was turned upside down when her son, Alden, was diagnosed stage four Neuroblastoma. Now, Alden is 8 months in remission all thanks to the extraordinary care from Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital.

Katy Erdman sat down with Cubby and Christine during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month to chat all about the care her son received from our friends over at Hassenfeld Children's Hospital.

Erdman describes the staff as family, "Our oncologist, Dr. Raetz, I think of as family. I mean all of them, everybody on the whole team there - the nurses, the oncologists, the infectious disease doctors, the ICU doctors, the clinic doctors, the child life specialists, the therapists, they're our family. We spent so many months with them because he was impatient basically for 16 months. You just kind of create these relationships... Beyond saving my little boy's life, they are world renowned. The team there could not be more supportive, caring, loving, and life saving."

At Hassenfeld Children's Hospital at NYU Langone, doctors diagnose and treat over 2,000 kids with cancer each year. Join us and Go Gold for Hassenfeld: donate here. Watch the full interview with Katy Erdman in the video player above to learn more about her family's experience at Hassenfeld.
