These Foods Can Ease Headaches

Let's face it, headaches are the worst. Sure, there are plenty of pills to pop when your head starts to ache or throb but what kind of help can you get if you're trying to avoid taking pain relievers or simply aren't a fan of swallowing pills? According to PopSugar, the produce section of your supermarket can actually offer a lot of relief, you just need to know what to shop for. Here are some foods that can help relieve your headache pain.

  • Potato- If you are recovering from last night's antics, a plate of greasy french fries probably sounds like it would hit the spot. Who would've thought that a baked potato is actually what you need instead? Foods with a lot of potassium have been shown to help reduce bad headaches and a baked potato with the skin contains up to 600 milligrams of potassium! You can even spruce up your potato with sour cream and cheese.
  • Watermelon- one of the biggest reasons for headaches is dehydration, so foods rich in water can help ease the pain.  Aside from containing a lot of water, watermelon is also a good source of potassium and magnesium, so eating this fruit will help with that nasty headache!
  • Pineapple- Nothing is more refreshing than fresh pineapple! It contains an enzyme called bromelain that has been used as a natural form of pain relief for centuries. Plus, this fruit has anti-inflammatory properties that can help your headache as well.
  • Cucumber- Like watermelon, cucumber can also deal with the issue of dehydration because they are made up off 95% water! These veggies make the perfect healthy and natural snack when you're fighting off a headache!
