The actor and musician has donated $1 million in aid to the Puerto Rico recover effort, following the devastating effects of Hurricane Maria and Irma. Lopez, who is of Puerto Rican parentage and was born in the Bronx, is contributing proceeds from her Las Vegas residency to hurricane relief efforts. On a video posted to her Instagram account, she revealed that she had not been able to reach family members living on the island.

Lopez is co-chairing the New York state recovery effort and announced her donation at a press conference on September 24th alongside governor Andrew Cuomo. The relief effort will donate goods, and aims to provide healthcare support to citizens in need.

“Alex Rodriguez and I, who are both New Yorkers, are utilizing all our resources and relationships in entertainment, sports and business to garner support for Puerto Rican and Caribbean relief efforts,” Lopez said.

The singer is also working with her ex-husband Marc Anthony on additional relief efforts to “rush the relief that our brothers and sisters in Mexico, Puerto Rico and the Caribbean desperately need.”
