Rocky Johnson, Father Of Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson, Dead At 75

Dwayne Johnson's father, professional Canadian wrestler Rocky Johnson, has passed away. He was 75.

World Wrestling Entertainment confirmed the news on their official website in a note, writing, "WWE is saddened to learn that Rocky "Soul Man" Johnson (born Wayde Douglas Bowles), a WWE Hall of Famer, former World Tag Team Champion, and father of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, has passed away at age 75." Meanwhile, sports journalist and editor of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter Dave Meltzer first broke the news on Twitter, writing, "What horrible news, Rocky Johnson passed away, Dwayne’s father. Our best to Dwayne, Ricky, Ata and the entire family."

Johnson, who was living in the Tampa Bay area, died on Wednesday (January 15). He started his career in 1964 and later on became a National Wrestling Alliance Georgia Champion. After winning several championships throughout the ’70s, ’80s and ’90s, he retired in 1991. Years later in 2008, he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.
