Surgeon Fixes Baby Girl’s Cleft Palate During Pandemic

Kim Chalom knew something was off about her newborn baby, Sydney, as soon as was born.

After four months of frustration and very little answers, Sydney was diagnosed with a soft cleft palette and Kim turned to Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital for the corrective surgery. Amidst the global COVID-19 pandemic, Sydney had surgery to fix the cleft palette at Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital in July 2020.

During her interview with Cubby, Christine, and Rich Kaminski, Kim described her experience at Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital and with Dr. Roberto L. Flores, “Once I met Dr. Flores, I felt a sense of calm that I didn’t feel sooner. I just felt like I was making the right decision by going to Hassenfeld. It felt more like a family than going to a doctor. It was very communicative and my husband and I just had such a great feeling when we were there, we met with every single person that would pertain to us… We didn’t have a diagnosis for 4 months and it was frustrating I am very grateful for the connections I had that recommended me to Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital.”

Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital has saved numerous babies just like Sydney. Watch the full interview with Kim Chalom in the player above and become a Bright Lite and donate here now.
