One Mom Shares Her Journey to Becoming ‘Cancer Mom’

A ‘cancer mom’ is someone who has to step up and do the unthinkable for their child. Alexa Wilding sat down with Helen Little and Nina Del Rio during our Hope for the Holidays radiothon to share her journey to becoming a cancer mom for her son, Lou.

Lou is just seven years old and is a two-time brain cancer survivor. Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital provided the highest level of care to Lou both times he battled the horrific disease.

Alexa describes what it was like becoming a supermom for her baby boy, “a cancer mom is a superhero cape that you never imagine you will put on and one day you just put it on. There are times when you feel the cape on you and it bothers you and then there are days when you feel like a superhero… I know I can’t control my child’s fate, but at least I can be of service." She goes on to say, "Hassenfeld goes above and beyond, it’s a human hospital and takes care of the whole family."

Lou is doing well and is now very healthy thanks to Hassenfeld Children's Hospital. Watch the full interview in the player above and make a donation here.
