Michael Riedel from 710 WOR joined Cubby and Christine to talk about his brand new book Singular Sensation: The Triumph of Broadway, the follow-up to his bestseller Razzle Dazzle: The Battle for Broadway. The Simon and Schuster book was released Tuesday, November 10.
Riedel disclosed that he finished his manuscript to the novel right before Broadway shut down in March due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
The NY Post columnist shared his opinion of the future of Broadway, “Broadway was shut down the second week of March and it has not been open for 8 months. I have to be honest, I don’t think it will be open until 2022, until there is a vaccine. It will open when actors feel safe to go back, the musicians feel safe to go back, and the audience feels safe to go back. I’ve never seen anything like this in the 25 years I’ve covered Broadway. You could not engineer something worse for Broadway than a pandemic that’s spread by people singing, people playing instruments in the pit, sitting close together.”
Later, the radio host weighs in on why certain shows fly vs flop, how Broadway will flourish once again, and more. Watch the full interview in the video player above.
