It’s almost Valentine’s Day, and whether you have a sweetie or not, chances are you’ll be eating some chocolate this year. The sweet treat just goes hand in hand with the romantic holiday and a new survey from Candystore.com reveals how much chocolate we actually buy for it.
The candy website used sales data from the last 12 years to determine just how much chocolate is sold and it’s a lot … we’re talking 58-million pounds of it. And that’s just the amount bought in the seven days leading up to February 14th.
According to the National Retail Foundation, Americans will shell out $27.4-billion this month on Valentine’s gifts, which comes out to an average of $196.31 per person. And they expect around $2.4-billion of that will be spent on candy, while the rest will go to other gifts, like jewelry, dinners out, and flowers.
