Michael Riedel chats with Tony Award winner Santino Fontana about his starting role in Tootsie on Broadway and how it is not just the movie on stage. Fontana talks about how he went from small-town life on the West Coast to Broadway and being inspired to get into acting by old movies he watched with his grandfather.
"I wanted to be a baseball player growing up, I grew up in Washington... there was no professional arts, anything in my town. It didn't really seem possible to be in the theatre or in music or in anything. I was always kind of obsessed with watching movies and TV with my grandfather who baby sat me a lot... It was a wide range of stories we watched. I loved the idea that you could be united with somebody in watching an imaginary story."
