Saint Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland. He was a Christian missionary credited with converting Ireland to Christianity around 400 AD. Interestingly, St Patrick wasn't actually Irish. His birthplace and date is not known. BTW - the "snakes" he banished were more of a symbolism of evil rather than the animal.
