Earlier this month, 25-year-old Alabama nursing student Brittany Diggs made headlines when she made a brave escape from the trunk of a moving car, according to Today. She was able to escape thanks to a special latch that everyone needs to know about.
Interior trunk latches have been required by law in all passenger cars since 2001, but many people don't even know it exists. The Today Show set up an experiment to see if everyday people would know what to do in this situation, and shockingly not so many did. This is exactly what you should do if you are ever put in this scary situation.
First, if your back is facing the opening of the trunk, flip your body around.
Then, you'll see a glowing level to pull. It is usually located on the trunk door.
There's your escape route!
They also suggested to check out the location of the latch in your own car- just for your own good measure.
You can also very well be tied up if trapped in a trunk, so they also explain how to break free from a zip tie. Watch the rest of this very important video below!
