If you felt exceptionally aggravated with crowds in New York City, it's because NYC & Company, the city's official tourism, announced that 85.2 million visitors came to NYC last year, according to the New York Times.
It should be noted that this number has jumped from 2017's tourist count, 61.4 million, making this the ninth straight annual increase. The majority of visitors come from other areas in the United States, spending $44 billion in New York City last year
“We embrace diversity and are welcoming to all,” Mayor Bill de Blasio told the Times. “And the more than 65 million visitors to our city were able to experience that firsthand.”
NYC & Company estimates that tourism numbers will rise to 67 million in 2019.
