Elton John and husband David Furnish enjoyed their first meal together at a dinner party on the day they met.
The pair sat down with iHeartRadio podcast Ruthie's Table 4 earlier this month to discuss meals they shared in the early stages of their relationship, and other food-related memories that warm their hearts to this day.
The year was 1993. The Rocket Man had just returned home to Windsor, England following a lengthy world tour. He was single, and the only folks he knew from the area were those he met during his time in AA. So, in an effort to meet new people, he decided to throw a dinner party.
Furnish fondly recalled the scene in which he and the icon met, including the food being served the second he walked through John's door.
"Elton's friend rang my friend Malcolm. And I was going over to Malcolm's house for dinner that night and he was having a dinner party. And Elton's friend said 'why don't you bring your dinner party down to Windsor?' So, Elton didn't know me I had very little connection at all. It was very random. And I was vegetarian then. And I came through the door and you were having spaghetti Bolognese, I think is what everyone was eating..."
Furnish revealed that, due to his diet restrictions, he was unable to enjoy the Bolognese with everyone else, and ended up eating a "pasta bake" made by Elton's housekeeper instead.
The "Benny and the Jets" icon asked for Furnish's number that evening, and the rest was history!
