James Harkness Chats Starring As Paul Williams In 'Ain't Too Proud'

On this Inside Broadway podcast, Michael Riedel and Christine Nagy chat with James Harkness, starring in Ain't Too Proud. He talks about the life of his character Paul Williams and how he found himself on Broadway.

"We definitely listened to The Temptations when we worked on these characters. A majority of us grew up with them... they played songs to us, and we were able to get acapella versions of the songs to hear their voices clearly. The goal was not to be a mimic because that doesn't work and it doesn't bring any real heart and life to the show. They gave a little bit of freedom to be ourselves. But, the goal was to capture that sound and magic. Through the work we were able to do with out music director we did just that."

Ain't Too Proud is playing at the Imperial Theatre and will continue performances the week of April 13. Listen to the full podcast in the player below.
