Anders Osborne On How He's Being More Positive With 'Picasso's Villa'

Anders Osborne has always had a unique perspective, and not much gets past him.

The Swedish born singer-songwriter and guitarist fell in love music at an early age, thanks to Black Sabbath, ZZ Top, KISS and the like, but deepened his appreciation for songcraft after moving to New Orleans as a teen and absorbing American blues, jazz, soul and roots music.

The result is a musician celebrated for his work in the realms of R&B, folk and reggae and his politically-conscious lyrics.

Speaking to Q104.3 New York's Out of the Box with Jonathan Clarke, Anders recalled his unique upbringing, his adventures in music and his acclaimed new record, Picasso's Villa.

"Most of these songs were written pretty folky at my house in New Orleans," he explains of his new record and his single "To Live." "This was basically part of the whole period of this record, which is this balance of you spend a certain amount of time just doing the same — so in my case, making music, playing music, being an entertainer, performer and all this stuff. Then you get to a place where you go, 'Well, this isn't it, there's still this thing missing. I'm too resentful and I'm too emotional there, and ... all these things.' So this song ['To Live'] is one of the two or three, I think, on the record where I'm trying to organize these thoughts and be more positive."
